Our Public Housing Is Crumbling, and No One Is Taking Charge.
Housing is a major area of concern for many New Yorkers as rents skyrocket and landlords look to take advantage of legal loopholes to eliminate rent controlled apartments. NYCHA is crumbling and its leadership failed to keep buildings safe from mold, rats, and freezing temperatures. One in ten students in the public school system is homeless. Our city and state governments have failed to address these crises. I will demand reform for greater oversight and transparency of NYCHA. I will advocate for legislation at the city and state levels to impose stronger rent regulations and crack down on predatory landlords. I propose a set-aside of 15% of new units to house the homeless.
